Wondering what a solar panel installation actually entails?

While we serve customers in the Tempe area, the solar panel installation process is similar no matter where you are located. The basic steps include:
Information-Gathering, Quote Proposal, On-Location Evaluation, System Installation, Inspection and Connection.

1: Info Gathering

To initiate the process, the first step is to give us a call or fill out a contact form to let us know what type of installation you need. Feel free to offer any other pertinent info you would like us to be aware of. Once we get into contact with you, we'll gather some basic information about your current energy bills, the size of your property, the application (residential, commercial, agricultural or schools). The goal is to better understand the goals of your project and begin to work out what size of a system you'll need.

2: Provide Costs and Proposal

Based on the information provided in the information-gathering step, we will provide a custom quote for your solar installation. There will likely be tax credits, incentives and rebates that will apply, so we will summarize those as well to give you a big picture cost for your system. In many situations, once we have applied rebates, incentives and tax credits, the cost of your system may be minimized by as much as half! Your design proposal will also account for the type and quantity of equipment needed, for example type and quantity of solar panels depending on their efficiency, aesthetics and durability.

3: On-Site Visit

After information gathering and quote acceptance, we will find a time to visit your property. The intent of this visit is to multifold: one, to determine how "solar-ready" is your roof, in addition to evaluating any other variables that may impact the installation. These variables include:
  • How much energy you are currently using, which will help us calculate how many panels you will need for your system
  • Building codes and zoning restrictions that may affect your specific location within Tempe
  • Roof size, age, material, slant, orientation, load capacity and overall structure
  • Evaluation of current electrical system
  • Evaluation of any structures or trees that may be currently providing shade to your roof

4: Panel Installation

Before installation, we will complete the require paperwork and secure building permits with the city of Tempe. As your solar provider, it is our job to make sure that your solar array is installed in accordance with local regulations and laws.

In addition to permitting, before installation we will have obtained all equipment and materials needed for your project, as calculated by our design engineers for the size of your system.

The timeline for installing the panels on your roof will range in length, from half a day to a few days depending on the size of your system. Installation for a commercial business may take a couple of days, whereas for a home the installation can be typically be completed in one day. The installation will include wiring, roof preparation, and then panel installation. As the property owner, you don't need to do much other than relax and wait to start saving!

5: Inspection and connection

Once the installation is complete, the city of Tempe will perform an inspection to verify the installation is in compliance with local regulations and codes. There will likely also be a short evaluation done by the electrical utility. You don't need to be present for either of these visits, but you are of course welcome to participate. As soon as the city and utility completes their inspection, your brand new solar array is ready to be put to use!
